Audiobook of the Year

Our Top 20

Kristin Hannah
The incomparable Julia Whelan performs this sweeping and poignant novel about the nurses of the Vietnam War written by Kristin Hannah, who takes a well-known historical event and weaves it with such a deeply human story that it turns everything we thought we knew on its head.

Yuval Noah Harari
Harari once again excels at distilling thousands of years of history into accessible, revelatory observations, this time performed by Vidish Athavale. From oral storytelling to podcasts to AI, Harari traces the great cultural and technological shifts in information-sharing, leaving us mind-blown by his insights.

Joe White
This star-studded adaptation manages to be faithful to Orwell’s original novel and yet entirely reinvigorating. With lead roles by Andrew Garfield, Cynthia Erivo, Andrew Scott and Tom Hardy, and music composition by Matt Bellamy of Muse (all mixed in Dolby Atmos spatial audio), listeners were double-plus thrilled.

Charles Duhigg
Duhigg rocked our world eight years ago with The Power of Habit. In Supercommunicators, the Pulitzer winner does it again, this time with insights on the art of good conversation and how it’s so crucial to the task of connecting with others. Bonus: He narrates this one himself.

Emily Henry
Henry’s knack for writing relatable characters who are balancing romantic love with relationships between friends and siblings adds even more joy to this beautiful story. Julia Whelan delivers another flawless performance, bringing the unforgettable cast of Funny Story to life. This one might be Henry’s best yet.

Dervla McTiernan
This is a propulsive psychological bender that takes you on an unforgettable journey to figure out what’s happened to the wife of a man with unending resources. The performance of the various perspectives by the talented Kristen Sieh elevates the story, leaving you deeply invested in each revelation.

Marian Keyes
A wonderful book by Marian Keyes is always made even better when performed by Marian Keyes (a remarkably talented narrator in her own right), and My Favourite Mistake may be our favourite of them all. Heartwarming, funny and romantic, this is a story of running away only to find yourself at the end of the road after all.

Ashley Elston
The interesting premise in this uber-twisty thriller is that you can tell many lies, but people will remember the first lie. This lie will follow the liar, in this case the main character, Evie Porter. What a life – even though it’s a lie. Narrator Saskia Maarleveld is amazing and very versatile.

Shankari Chandran
Unfinished Business has all the makings of a great international thriller: civil unrest, a mind-boggling murder and a CIA agent ready to take down the villain. Performed by two talented actors, Pallavi Sharda and Nicholas Brown, this story delivers the action and suspense that thriller fans crave.

Rebel Wilson
Narrated by Wilson herself, the audio edition truly shines as the best way to savour this buzzy memoir. She makes you laugh and cry with her stories of being a young actor trying to make it big – a tale of sheer determination detailing how she became the international star she is today.

Matt Haig
The Life Impossible is a mystical and deeply human story, and a manifesto to not write the end of your own story too soon. Wisdom and whimsy flow through Joanna Lumley’s performance of a retired teacher starting a new life in Ibiza. We’re still revelling in the beauty of the narrative.

Richard Osman
This fantastic new series starter from Richard Osman does not disappoint. A retiree and his daughter-in-law team up to solve murders both global and epic in scale. The dialogue is punchy, fast-paced and smart, making this listen completely impossible to put down thanks to Nicola Walker's adroit and vibrant narration.

Chantelle Otten
Otten invites listeners to explore raw and emotional questions about sexuality, kink, pleasure and more, while offering a humanising view of vulnerability, connection and intimacy. We can't get enough of Otten's kind and helpful voice – it's no wonder her clients trust her with their most intimate conversations.

Percival Everett
A reimagining of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn told from Jim’s perspective, James puts a radical spin on one of the most frequently debated American satires of all time, cleverly subverting racist stereotypes. Narrator Dominic Hoffman expands the story with his melting pot of accents and captivating voice.

Dr Gina Cleo
In her debut Audible Original, world-renowned habit-change expert Dr. Cleo goes beyond conventional wisdom to turn complex science into accessible habit-hacking tips for lasting personal transformation. Dr. Cleo's soothing narration brings her research to life in this inspiring and insightful guide.

Ann Liang
A Song to Drown Rivers is a captivating retelling of the legend of Xishi, one of ancient China’s four famed beauties. It’s one part love story, one part historical spy thriller, with a tinge of fantasy. Listeners are well cared for in the hands of veteran narrator Natalie Naudus.

Sarah A. Parker
Parker gives listeners dragons, magic, assassins and forbidden romance. The main heroine, portrayed by narrator Sarah Mollo-Christensen, is as headstrong as they get. Fajer Al-Kaisi performs Kaan’s perspective, and his voice is absolutely delicious. Equal parts fantasy and romance, this journey delights and surprises.

Cara Bastone
When a solar flare causes a high school English teacher to fall through a wormhole, she lands 85 years in the future with no idea how to get home, and only her arch nemesis to help her. Zoë Chao and Noah Reid’s performances were perfection, enhanced by a stellar full cast.

Luis Elizondo
Luis Elizondo, the former Pentagon official who ran a secret program investigating UFOs, is knocking listeners’ socks off with his self-narrated memoir, an undeniably ripping account. From Area 51 to the notorious "Tic Tac" objects spotted in the USS Nimitz encounter, it’s all here.

Darren Hayes
This raw memoir from Australian icon and Savage Garden frontman Darren Hayes brims with vulnerability and soul. Read by the artist, Unlovable takes listeners from 1970s suburban Queensland to arena stages around the world, not flinching from the trauma of a childhood marked by violence, addiction and abuse.
