About this listen
CHOSEN BY WATERSTONES AS ONE OF THEIR BEST CRIME & THRILLER BOOKS OF 2024
'As a comedian, Bob Mortimer spins a shaggy-dog story like nobody else, and this is a rollicking old-school yarn' The Guardian
‘Mortimer’s verbal specificity and off-kilter humour will keep his fans chuckling’ The Times
WARNING - this book includes: heavy crimes, car journeys, dreadfulness, large fruits, romance, planning applications, and a lot of pie.
Gary Thorn is struggling with a big decision. Should he stay in London, wallowing in the safety of his legal job in Peckham and eating pies with his next door neighbour, Grace and her dog Lassoo, or should he move to Brighton, where his girlfriend Emily is about to open The Hotel Avocado? Either way, he’d be letting someone down.
But sinister forces are gathering in a cloud of launderette scented-vape smoke, and the arrival of the mysterious Mr Sequence puts Gary in an even worse predicament: soon he might be dead.
All Gary wants is a happy life. But he also wants to be alive to enjoy it…

British story telling at its best
Extremely entertaining, and humorous with colourful characters and suspense that kept me intrigued throughout the story .

LOVED IT!!
A great follow-up to The Satsuma Complex. A well told story. Wonderfully peculiar side-stories, and narrators.
I would happily read another in the series, or anything else that Bob M writes. Hope he is planning another book.
Well worth the 9hr 20mins investment.

A great follow up, don’t miss it!
I almost didn’t get this book after reading a review of it in the guardian. It said it still had the quirky bits but with not serious plot pushing it along like the first one. This is TOTALLY wrong. There is a serious plot and deadly consequences of things going wrong. Can’t wait for the next one Bob!

Great story, great writing
Some books appeal because the story itself is so good. Some are so well written that the plot is almost secondary. And some rare books manage both. I think this one manages it, with the added bonus of wonderful narration from all voice actors. As expected, Bob Mortimer makes the absurd seem absolutely plausible and it is wonderful to read more of Gary’s adventures following the first book.

confusing
at first, then story began to come together. the only then was trying keep track of the pages as read....listened. I am a fan of Bob making up stories but I persevered with it. good story at the end, not as funny as I hoped.
