Soseki Natsume's comic masterpiece, I Am a Cat, satirizes the foolishness of upper-middle class Japanese society during the Meiji era. 噺家の学芸会を見ていただくような落語ですが、工夫によれば、他のネタより、楽しさの効果が上がるのではないでしょうか。ハメモノ（お囃子入り）の、賑やかで、派手なネタを、お楽しみ下さいませ。

巧妙な手段で、一大事を収めるという、落語的トリックを楽しんでいただきます。

このネタは、見る落語と言えるのではないでしょうか。ラジオやＣＤでは面白さが伝わりにくく、視覚に訴えるネタの代表。品良く演じなければ、嫌悪感が残る落語だけに、スッキリした構成演出が肝心と言えます。

戦後、貴重な落語を後輩に伝えた、初代橘ノ圓都が十八番にしていた落語です。浄瑠璃好きだっただけに、浄瑠璃の出て来るネタを好んで上演したことで、辛うじて、この落語も伝えられました。

上方落語界の名人二代目桂三木助から、東京落語界の八代目林家正蔵に伝わり、「あなたに返しておきます」という言葉を添えて、先代（三代目）桂文我へ移されましたが、高座では演じた記録はありません。

このネタ以上、美しい演題は無いでしょう。明治時代に刊行された雑誌に掲載されていますが、それ以降、上演されることは稀だったと思います。短編でありながら、昔の人の智慧を感じる落語と言えましょう。

「伽羅の下駄」という落語は二種類ありますが、今回のネタは、長編の方です。伽羅と言えば、香木の最高級品。伽羅で下駄を拵えると、一体、どれぐらいの値打ちがあるのでしょうか。

鶴の一声とは、令和の今日で言えば、トップダウンの命令と言えましょうか。このネタは、昔の速記本の中に、ヒッソリと眠っていましたが、上演可能になるように、再構成しました。

二代目桂（文廼家）文之助の速記本に載っていますが、頻繁に上演されていたネタではありません。伸縮自在に出来る、便利なネタのように思いますが、実際に上演すると、骨が折れます。

落語の中で、怪異談と言えば、このネタになるでしょう。気持ち悪いネタと嫌う方も居られますが、人情味豊かで、良い仕上がりになっていると思います。

東京落語では、「大工調べ」という演題。寄席や落語会で頻繁に上演されていますが、上方落語では、珍品扱いになっています。大抵、前半だけの上演。さて、今回は如何でしょうか？
