Ghost Stories of an Antiquary is a horror short story collection by British writer M. R. James, published in 1904 (some had previously appeared in magazines). Some later editions under this title contain both the original collection and its successor, More Ghost Stories (1911), combined in one volume

M. R. James es sin duda uno de los más significados miembros de esa característica saga de eruditos ingleses que compaginaron y compaginan su obra científica y académica con la literatura popular. Su obra no desmerece a la de Poe o Lovecraft.

Sus cuentos creados fueron publicados gracias a sus amigos editores, Historias de fantasmas de un anticuario (1904), su primera obra impresa de este género y que reúne 8 cuentos fundamentales para explicar la forma de entender el miedo en la literatura que este autor creó acaso sin querer pero cuya influencia fue fundamental en décadas posteriores.

Relata la historia del reverendo Somerton, un erudito medievalista, quien decide narrar cómo descubrió las inquietantes pistas del tesoro de un desgraciado abad mientras investigaba en la biblioteca de la abadía. El vínculo entre el horror y los sitios sagrados, particularmente las iglesias, abadías y monasterios, es algo que acompaña a este autor -también erudito, también medievalista-.

¡Silba y acudiré! se abre con una conversación cotidiana sobre unas vacaciones en las que se desliza, casi sin pretenderlo, la información que desencadenará la venida del fantasma: Parkins, el héroe, será informado de la existencia de las ruinas de un viejo monasterio templario, pero él dará a esta información casual, casi peregrina, una importancia relativa, que sólo su curiosidad ociosa terminará por volver relevante.

Cuento de demonios perseguidores y maldiciones en un remoto pueblo del Pirineo francés. Denniston viaja a Saint Bertrand de Comminges, un viejo pueblo situado en los Pirineos, para recabar información de la iglesia del lugar.

El señor Williams es un gran aficionado a adquirir viejos grabados y estampas. Como es habitual, recibe un catálogo del señor Britnell, sugiriendo éste que examine cierto grabado que puede ser de su interés. Dicho grabado contiene la vista de una casa de principios del siglo XVIII, y al final lo solicita, junto a otros artículos del catálogo. Poco a poco irá desvelándose la naturaleza del grabado. Otro cuento imprescindible.
