The story of Lady Chatterley and her love for her husband's gamekeeper outraged the sensibilities of Edwardian England. Lawrence’s first novel tells the tale of a love triangle between Lettie Beardsall and her neighbors George Saxton, son of a farmer, and Leslie Tempest, the local mine owner's son. Lettie will marry Leslie but remain sexually attracted George. George also marries but falls victim to alcohol.

The last and most famous of D. H. Lawrence's novels, Lady Chatterley's Lover was published in 1928 and banned in England and the United States as pornographic. While sexually tame by today's standards, the book is memorable for better reasons---Lawrence's masterful and lyrical prose, and a vibrant story that takes us bodily into the world of its characters.
