I remain confused and incomplete

My confusion is why this is a classic. I am a mature woman and quite well read and I consider reasonably worldly but still gleaned nothing from this. I believe the author is gay and that may account for the depth of passion and love that is so strained. Maybe in time it will all find a place in my psychology.
