On this week's episode we are delighted to welcome Buckinghamshire O60s 2nd XI captain and prolific sports author David Tossell.

David has written 20 books largely about cricket and football in the 1970s - the era when most listeners to this podcast were avidly following cricket even though media coverage was scant.

David's latest book 'Blood on the Tracks' is a masterpiece of research and writing covering the infamous Ashes series of 1974/75 when England came up against Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson in combination for the first time.

England would lose 4 of the first 5 tests with one drawn winning only the 6th and final test when Thomson was out injured and Lillee was injured just six overs into the match.

It was a brutal series with numerous England players being injured by this torrent of fast bowling the unrelenting hostility of which they had never previously encountered. And this at a time when helmets weren't around and upper body protection was minimal and very rudimentary.

On this week's episode we are delighted to welcome England O60s commentator Rash Mahmood.

Rash explains how he landed this prestigious role, his experience of the O60s World Cup in India and how he is looking forward to the tour of Australia for the Grey Ashes.

He gives some insights into being in the England camp as well as an overview of the work of the commentator and the technical set up. He gives a big shout out to Steve Dellow who has been instrumental in providing the live coverage.

We are also grateful to Steve for giving us the opportunity for our 15 minutes of fame as we provided the You Tube livestream entertainment during the innings break in the O60s county championship final between Yorkshire and Lancashire.

In this episode we cover the Over 60s International Tri-Nations tournament that took place in North Wales on the 17th 18th and 19th of September 2024 featuring teams from Scotland, Wales, England, and the England Lions.

We also pay tribute to the fantastic work that Ron Hedley from Buckinghamshire has done raising almost £50,000 for prostate cancer awareness culminating in a grand finale at Lords on his 75th birthday – September 15, 2024

We also reveal our own Over 60s dream teams for 2024.

The criteria was that we either had to have played against the players we selected this season or witnessed them playing against our county when we weren't able to play. We've had a lot of fun putting these teams together and who knows maybe they'll compete against each other at some point!

The question is did you make one off our teams? One player made both. We didn’t know each others teams until we revealed them during the recording.

It’s been the final week of the over 60s and over 70s county cricket championship competitions with eight finals scheduled for the O60s and the 1st XI Cup final for the O70s

But no-one told the weather!

Of the 9 finals 4 will now be played at the start of the 2025 season, 2 were decided by DLS and 3 were completed.

Congratulations to all the winners - as well as Essex who won the O60s 4th Division and Hertfordshire who are champions of the O70s 2nd XI competition.

Next week we will be covering the O60s Tri-Nations competition featuring Scotland, Wales, England and England Lions (is that the Lions team Freddie Flintoff is coaching?)

The domestic season has now finished but we’ve got a packed autumn programme of guests lined up for you.

We will also be sharing our own teams of the year - caveat: we can’t be in it, our team mates can’t be in it and the players we select we must have either played against or seen live in action in 2024.

It is the penultimate week of the over 60s and over 70s county cricket championship competitions

In the over 60s it's been semi-final week for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd XI’s and the penultimate week of group matches for the 4th XI’s.

In the over 70s it's been the final of the 1st XI Vase and Bowl competitions and the penultimate week of group matches for the 2nd XI’s.

We review all the action and then look forward to the final week which sees eight finals in the over 60s competition and the final of the over 70s 1st XI Cup competition
