I know what it's like to lose a spouse and a forty-year relationship. I know what it's like to have life shattered, to feel powerless, sad, overwhelmed, and in pain. My story is one of evolution. I have learned to fill the void and discover and recreate myself, not by forging ahead, but through gratitude and acceptance. I have found calm, peace and joy. A friend gave me a Prayer Shawl with a tag that is still attached that says in part, “May this shawl wrap you in God’s love.” The kind gesture of giving me this simple shawl was the beginning of my self-care and self-compassion. When I put it on, I felt instantly warmed and comforted. I began to acknowledge I was wounded and fragile. As I healed, my self-awareness expanded and I developed not only compassion toward myself, but compassion toward others as well. Today, I am a triple winner: a poet, an author, and an oil painter. I have learned to transform my loss into personal power. I derive great satisfaction through sharing my process and experience. I hope that my book helps you move through grief and heal.
