Amber Higgins is an American author who has over thirty years working with dogs professionally as a breeder, all-breed show or pet groomer, certified search dog instructor, handler and trainer, pet dog trainer and award winning pet business manager or owner. She has a degree in Media Communications, her work was first published in magazines and newspapers in the 1990's. Her book, "A Squirrel Planted an Acorn' is a short story from a tree's point of view and one of many which she plans to publish. Her first book, A Squirrel Planted an Acorn, was first penned in the 1990's on an old royal typewriter. After many years of moving and carrying manuscripts state to state working with dogs. The internet had come along way from using a royal typewrite and Amber used the manuscript to learn about self-publishing. The book remains today a popular short story amongst readers. For about 15 years, Amber was an active volunteer with her "Wrinkled-pups" Bloodhounds and German Shepherds to aid in the search for lost and missing persons. Amber's puppies went to several U.S. states, Canada and So America to help find missing people. In 2011, Amber created the Family Disaster Dog Training concept where family dogs find missing loved ones like working Man-trailing search dogs do. Except and additionally, pet dogs learn much more to help the family and carry emergency supplies during evacuation of disabled persons, young children and elderly. 2 books and a very popular ever growing blog were born. The Family Disaster Dogs book was first published with a large well know publishing house that two years later went out of business. Amber spent the next year rewriting and adding over a hundred pages with dog training lessons to self-publish the Family Disaster Dogs book 2nd edition which is available and used around the world to train dogs how to help its family in emergency. The second book Evacuate with Your Dog's Help" is a small book of pet and human supplies needed to evacuate with and how a dog can help. In 2015-2019, the children's picture book, "My Puppy Can Find Me" was accepted by a popular children's book publishing house and released at Christmas before Covid19 hit. Needless to say covid turned everything upside down, book signings stopped, book fairs and book stores closed. By the end of the first year authors and publishers were in a hard spot, although online sells went up, offline many publishers and stores closed for good. Once again Amber was returned her book manuscript and spent a year rewriting and self-publishing My Puppy Finds Me is a fun activity book to show parents and children how the family dog can search for and find a child or go find mom. By 2021, after many requests from dog trainers in other countries. The fourth book of the series was published. "Start Man-trailing " is being used around the world to start dogs, and new handlers on the journey of finding missing persons using Man-trailing skills which is not the same as "tracking". This book uses American bloodhound training methods to train all breeds of dogs to follow the trail of the person the dog is scented to find. The dog works on a long lead and discriminates one person's scent from all other scents. 2024 New Release of My Puppy Finds Santa.
