Peter English, Pi Mysteries

Peter English, at six foot two, chiseled features, clear blue eyes, and tipping the scale at 185, could be the poster boy for a police recruiting campaign. He was a former WW II MP with a law degree, who liked being a cop. It suited his personality and skills very well. His wife Amy had even adjusted to being a cop's wife.

Peter English can finally relax and enjoy a much-earned rest from murder, mayhem and everything else he went through in The Frame. Or, at least that's what he thought. A leisurely round of golf on a crisp fall Saturday morning with his dad and a couple of old friends. But when they arrive at the club, everything is shut down. Police cars, ambulances, the coroner's meat wagon, and his old partner from his days on the Memphis Police Department, Rudy Tobias, are on the scene. Scene? What scene?

Peter English decided he needed to spend some time with something softer than a loaded 45. After an evening of dining and dancing with the lovely Margo Lee Forrest at the famous Skyway, high atop The Peabody, the evening took a dramatic turn. As they were about the leave The Peabody parking lot, shots rang out nearby, and soon, police cars sped by with sirens blaring and red lights flashing. It's a well-known fact that former cops like to chase police cars as much as little boys like to chase fire engines.

The mob was gone (Pete thought), but Louie Galloway won't give up. He and Dewey have a price on their heads, and anyone else close to them is also in danger. Pete decides to go to Chicago and hopefully turn the tables on Galloway and, maybe, even the mob, while working with Lawrence Forsythe, a Chicago PI, and Luca Barzizza of the Chicago PD.
