They describe a very advanced state of spiritual awareness which occurred in this individual, with a scientific and clinical background, who is able to verbalize and explain the unusual phenomena in a manner that is clear and comprehensible.

Dr. Hawkins opens this lecture with thoughts about the mind, positionality, and dedication to truth. A person has to be willing to sacrifice everything and anything for the truth. He explains how "wantingness" causes misery and that one’s point of view contributes to that state. Stating the truth usually upsets some people. He discusses the spiritual ego, our perceived faults, what to do about them in order to become "bulletproof", and what brings us joy. In contrast, he talks about hatred in the world today and the actions that come out of it.

In this thorough explanation of the human ego, Dr. Hawkins points out that the difficulty with the mind is that it doesn't know the difference between that which is mental from that which "is". He explains that we can transcend the ego and reach the higher states of consciousness not by battling it, spending 30 years in psychotherapy or meditating forever, but by understanding its origin, its nature and its function. The ego then begins to dissolve on its own through compassion and acceptance because when you shine light on darkness, the darkness begins to disappear.

For the average spiritual seeker, the pathway to enlightenment often seems unclear. In this inspiring seminar, Dr. Hawkins informs us, "The enlightened state does not announce itself. You pray to God to understand the essence of divinity and love. Then in one happy moment when karmic propensities prevail, the State reveals itself." The role of karma is emphasized, for it allows us to recontextualize the seemingly unexplainable events of life. And on the power of surrendering one's personal will to God, he states, "To invoke the will of God is much different than handling something on your own!"

Addressing the age-old question "What is real?", Dr. Hawkins discloses many levels of reality, and how what is real at one level is not real at the next. So what is real? Does reality exist independently of observation? And what if emotions have nothing to do with reality?
