Nelson Beckett is an ex-cop who runs a bar and grill in a small, unconventional community, “The Edge”. Business is good, and he is considered the mayor of The Edge and the county sheriff has made him an honorary deputy. He starts having the night terrors again and he begins to fear that he might have inherited his mother’s mental illness. Another businessman asks the ex-cop if he believes in ghosts. Nelson tries to placate the man by telling him that we’re all haunted by our past and experiences.

Although Pete was wounded in the battle with Aaron, he managed to escape and the insane boy has run off into the woods that surround the town.

Rip, the leader of the Vietnam era "Old Dogs", follows a twisted and torturous path on the behalf of one of his old dogs. His probing brings out an insidious and mortal threat, a threat whose coils are wrapped around every aspect of the investigation. But Rip calls on his old dogs for one more mission on the behalf of their dead companion, but will the old warriors be enough, or will the great evil rise in triumph?
