From 1943 onward, most shows were written or adapted by the team of Dennis Green and Anthony Boucher or Green and Leslie Charteris who replaced Meiser who left the show over her disagreements with a sponsor over the amount of violence in the program. Einziger Hinweis, ein Märchenbuch, dessen aufgeschlagene Seiten das Märchen von Hänsel und Gretel preisgab. Inspektor Wolfford konnte sich darauf keinen Reim machen und zog den Meisterdetektiv zu Rate. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt wussten Holmes und Watson allerdings noch nicht, dass dieses Buch leider nicht das Letzte gewesen sein sollte, das sie auf die Spur des Mörders bringen würde.

Der Erfinder Coolbros bittet Sherlock Holmes um Beistand, da auf ihn schon zwei Mordanschläge verübt wurden. Er vermutet seine wirtschaftsschädliche Erfindung als Ursache der Feindlichkeit. Der Fall scheint Holmes interessant genug, um sich seiner anzunehmen. Dr. Watson ist ihm natürlich wie immer behilflich.
