Many people have heard of trauma and PTSD. But when we think of PTSD, many of us think of nightmares and flashbacks that are related to one traumatic incident or event that has been experienced by the sufferer. There is another form of PTSD that's related to being exposed to repetitive trauma. It is called Complex PTSD, coined by a woman named Judith Herman.

Most people are familiar with PTSD. But many have not heard of complex PTSD and developmental trauma disorder. As adults, many of us experience symptoms of anxiety and depression. We feel chronically stressed. We have trouble trusting others, or we may even experience feelings of paranoia in our relationships with others. We struggle to define what it is that is bothering us, and we struggle to find ways effective ways to treat it.

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is known to be a condition in which people usually have hypermobile joints and stretchy skin. This is what physicians generally look for when they are considering EDS diagnoses. The truth is that EDS can present in many different ways. There are many different types and forms of EDS, and they affect very different parts of a person's body. A physician who looks for only two signs is missing the big picture of the family history and the patient's symptoms in relation to an EDS diagnosis.

Anxiety can escalate to another level. When a person is exposed to traumatic or negative events where they feel little or no control in the outcome, the anxiety can turn into post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). If you have enough recurring events in your life that are traumatic, you may even be diagnosed with complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD).

Most people have heard about Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Many of us believe that PTSD is a condition that is only diagnosed in veterans that are coming back from wars. But does PTSD exist in other people as well? The short answer is yes. PTSD is a disorder that can affect nearly anyone who has a reaction to some sort of trauma that they experienced or witnessed at any point in their life.

Many people are in the midst of a high conflict court and custody battle with a narcissist. They begin to experience the narcissist’s gas-lighting and wrath in many ways. Not only do they experience this, however. They find that their child is the victim of gaslighting and brainwashing also. The non-narcissist doesn’t realize that the other parent brainwashes the child and triangulates the child against them. Eventually, the child begins to detest and hate the non-narcissistic parent.The non-narcissistic parent never knows what they did wrong to deserve their own child hating them.

Many listeners email me each day. They typically have problems with the men in their lives. The truth that most of them don't realize is that their emotionally unavailable man or narcissistic man has an undiagnosed syndrome, complex, or disorder. Men often don't seek diagnoses for these issues that have been an ingrained part of their personality since they were born. They want acceptance and a sense of belonging from their partners, and they are often as unable to get these things from his partner as she is unable to get emotional validation from him.

You got the diagnosis. You knew that the other person was different or eccentric in many ways, but you didn’t know why or how. Now you know that you are living with something called obsessive compulsive personality disorder, Asperger syndrome, Asperger's disorder, autism spectrum disorder, schizoid personality disorder, or narcissistic personality disorder.

There is a subset of people who are different from the normal population. Their brains are wired a bit differently, or they went through experiences in their lives that contributed to their introversion, social avoidance, and shyness.They learned to be self-sufficient instead of relying on others and on society for their needs. Some of these shy individuals who we classify as loners may be afflicted with a disorder called schizoid personality disorder.

There is clearly an epidemic of narcissism - a contagion of sorts - that is occurring across the globe. Narcissism is generally handed down from one generation to the next. It is said that nearly one in four people has narcissistic tendencies. It is likely that the number of narcissists will only continue to increase. Many people wonder why or how the narcissist seems to have two distinct personalities.

Most people know that the narcissist is nearly always a cheat. He is constantly grooming more and more narcissistic supply (love, adoration, fear, admiration) from those who are willing to bless him with it. He collects friends on Facebook and at work - friends who can serve as alternate partners. He even tests the waters with long-term friends from childhood, despite being sexually unattracted to them for all intents and purposes.

Silent treatment is one of the most devastating acts from a narcissist when his or her lover is falling in love with them. The narcissist uses this tactic to create a conflict of "supply and demand". The narcissist love bombs and supplies his lovers for a time period until he has no more to give or until he gets bored with his partner. Then he pushes the partner away and returns to fulfill his own desires while the partner is away.

Since the beginning of time, mothers have always been portrayed as wholesome and nurturing. They are splashed upon our television screens. We enjoy watching them in movies. Some of us grow up with a wholesome and nurturing mother, while other children aren't so lucky. What causes some mothers to toss aside their inborn nurturing qualities in favor of sadistic and evil behavior?

Narcissistic abusers... They manipulate. They lie. They cheat. They pick fights. They gaslight to make their partners feel as though they are losing their minds. They compartmentalize their lives so that they can keep their stories and their characters straight. They seem to become whomever the situation calls for. They seem to do it with ease and a lack of conscience.

OCPD is the abbreviation for a group of mental symptoms that are collectively called obsessive compulsive personality disorder. Many people confuse OCPD with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). People can have both; however, OCPD is a pervasive condition that affects the person's entire life and all interactions. A person with OCPD may justify their rigidity and inflexibility using the morals and values their family instilled in them.

Intermittent Explosive Disorder (IED) is a disorder which often gets diagnosed for people who do not fall under other mental disorders or personality disorders, but who experience rage incidents which are seemingly uncontrollable to them. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, "IED affects as many as 7.3 percent of adults - 11.5-16 million Americans". It is also estimated by NIMH that "six million...adolescents...meet the criteria for an IED diagnosis".

Most people don’t realize it, but emotional fear and anxiety can be subdued and brought to its knees. You can tap into your creative mind and use it as a tool to dispel your CPTSD and the associated trauma and brain atrophy that occurs after trauma.
