What mischief can creative people get up to during a lockdown?

Following on from our multi-musician composition revealed in previous episodes, we head off to Los Angelos ... in search of a dramatic contribution to a formerly musical project.

This detour takes us through some protest-ravaged parts of LA, and gives us an intimate insight into the Hollywood inner circle. Even though the intended interview with Johnny Depp did not eventuate (he was in court), we go one better!

And it's all set to music.

More music from the lockdown project ... more unusual musical contributions ... the shock appearance of a burly security guard ... an interview with a 70s funk guitarist ... cultural misappropriation by the bucketload ... minorities grossly offended and up in arms ... the usual stuff.

This is the second half of the 100-musician-more-or-less Kansas City project.

Win yourself a carton of wine. Or the equiv in Tequila or kombucha.

The Guru of Calm (once) mixes it with eccentric musical types from around the world and takes you to a place you have never been before and may never want to go again.

  • Covid and the Guru - part 1
    Jul 9 2020

Over weeks of Covid-19 lockdown, somewhere between 60 and 80 musicians from different parts of the world ... in their bedrooms and living rooms ... armed only with alcohol and personal recorders ... laid down 24-36 bars of a common old country-blues song. They had no idea what others were doing, and they had no idea of what the final track was going to end up like.

All they had to work to was a rough (very) demo of the producer with his rhythm guitar, outlining the structure of the song. No master arrangement, no access to recording studios, and no hint as to what other players might be doing.

    The result will surprise you!

But as you listen to it, keep in mind that this was a project launched in musical desperation. Therefore it has a suitably desperate COMPETITION attached to it.

Is this a professionally run competition? Far from it. Is it a legit lottery-type competition? Far from it. Is there a law against giving away free alcohol to those most in need of it – other musicians? Very likely.

So if any official comes knocking on my door, demanding to know what authority I have to conduct a competition, I will say it's only satire. BUT, if you're not an official, the details of the competition are here on my website:
