  • E42 | Nick "Desert Jesus" Fowler | A Nobody Who's Obsessed With The West | Fireside Chats
    Nov 11 2024
Episode Summary: Red urine, a dissolving toe, can’t squat to poo, drinking water from a trashcan hiking over 2000 miles in undies that end up buttless, 50+ mile days…persistence, determination, finisher, husband, and father. These are all words and phrases that describe Nick “DJ or Desert Jesus” Fowler, a man who’s a bit less man, and more athletic deity if you ask us. Nick sits down with us to cover just what it takes to FKT trails, push yourself beyond your limits, how to cope with regrets from trail, and impending fatherhood. Honestly, we will probably listen to this episode several times because we just love this guy. Cheers to you, Nick- a true man who's obsessed with the west, but definitely not a nobody. • BONUS | Hiking Injured & Marriage | Rene "Azul" Aldrich
    Oct 31 2024
Episode Summary: Halloween Bonus Episode release, because it's scary to hike with an injury, the thought of it taking you off trail is terrifying. Listen in. In this subscriber episode of YWIB we sit down with Renee “Azul” Aldrich to cover hiking while married (and your spouse is NOT with you), but also hiking with a potentially hike-ending injury. How’s intimacy when you haven’t seen you spouse for weeks or months? What emotional hurdles do you have to overcome to keep waking up to hike each day when it may be your last? We only had Azul for a short episode because she had to hop back on trail (the CDT) but expect a full-length interview with her in the near future. • E39 | Trail Magic Along The CDT/CT
    Sep 30 2024

Episode Summary: Taking a step back from our traditional episode style, we did rapid interviews with CDT and (mainly) CT hikers along their treks here in Colorado while showing them some love…via trail magic! With free clothing and swag from Galena Mountain Projects (interviewed in episode 38), out-of-this-world dehydrated meals donated by Farm to Summit (a Durango, CO company), some good-hearted Samaritans from the Howe household (CO angels), and flapjacks from Cucumber and Bloom (PCT hikers), we all combined our efforts and pulled off a top-notch trail magic event for them. Listen in to see how these hikers’ treks were going in late July, and what tidbits they had to share. Enjoy!

  • E38 | Galena Mountain Projects | All About Place
    Sep 23 2024
Episode Summary: In this episode of YWIB we interview one of our FAVORITE outdoor (or even casual) brands which we stumbled upon in the adorable town of Leadville, CO. Galena Mountain Projects (or Galena) started with ideas and plots in a cold tent in even colder terrain- ideas to bring the outdoor mecca that is Leadville, to life…through guidebooks. From there, they evolved to selling outdoor/active clothing with a rustic Colorado flair. We’ve used their Sawatch bamboo sun hoodies on the Colorado Trail and basically every trail we’ve hiked since discovering them. Listen to Justin and David’s story about how thoughts became reality- something that sounds very similar to the making of your next thru hike or backpacking trip, right? Aug 28 2024

Episode Summary: In this (RELEASED) subscriber episode of “Yeti Walks Into Basecamp” we do a bit of verbal processing with you. Hiking with a dog can be difficult. Hiking with a 1-year-old, relatively untrained (but we are working on it and she's doing so good!) husky is a bit more so. We discuss some of the highs and lows of our experience so far, hiking over the last 3.5 months with our new girl, Loba. She’s a light to our day but adds a whole new level of difficulty and planning that we need to consider. Additionally, we cover some of the gear we use with her, and some things we are hoping to get in the future. We record this one from our tent, so just ignore the sleepy sounds and sleeping bag rustles. Thanks for being a part!
