• Gary Spears talks about using breakthrough to support community
    Nov 4 2021

Host Rebeccah Silence turns the tables, interviewing big-hearted radio personality “Big Poppa” Gary Spears, usually the guy in the interviewer seat.  Gary knows what it takes to be a trusted voice, using his platform on the air to support his community.  On the podcast he shares his thoughts on what it takes to be a credible spokesman.  Gary’s story will inspire you to believe that you can become a person of influence in your community too.

Gary likens experiencing breakthrough in life to playing a video game—a player grows by breaking through one level at a time, earning more power and weapons to better equip them to achieve the next level.  One of the ways he’s done it was to co-create, with Rebeccah, two radio shows to help listeners lead their best lives.  With titles like “Confession Tuesday” and “Wellness Wednesday” there’s little doubt why the audience grew.

The emphasis on being local and supporting local is at the heart of earning the trust and respect of the community.  Gary’s genuine enthusiasm for his job and his passion for connecting with his listeners and ability to be vulnerable have allowed him to become someone whose opinion is valued.  Any movement can begin with a single person, willing to share their story, attracting like-minded individuals.

Gary’s advice if you don’t see a path to following your passion?  “Blaze the trail.”

  • Fall in love with everyone you meet: healing through relationships
    Oct 28 2021

We all crave it.  We all need it.  What is it?  It’s cliché, but 100% true, love is the answer.  And it wins every time.  On this episode host Rebeccah Silence gives valuable insight and practical advice on how love can heal your relationships.  If you take away only one truth from this podcast, learn this: others are not responsible for making you feel.  Only you control the way you feel.  With that knowledge Rebeccah will guide you into falling in love with yourself more deeply—and everyone you meet.

What is love?  Love is the experience of being connected.  Rebeccah highlights some of the pitfalls that keep us from this connection: Measuring Love, Dishonesty, Withholding, Unclear Boundaries, to name a few.  If we can recognize the things that trip us up, we can eliminate them.  So, how do you get more love?  You gotta give more love.  Even when it means loving the unlovable.

When it comes to love, in childhood many of us learn we need to earn.  But what if we were to stop measuring love and simply focus on giving more of it to everyone, whether we believe they deserve it or not?  Too often we blame others when our relationships aren’t working.  But our relationships aren’t hurting us, rather, they are a mirror to show us where we haven’t healed yet.

Rebeccah outlines a three-step process to help maintain independence and stay true to ourselves while being committed to others.  The outcome?  True breakthrough in radical self-love and the ability to fall in love with everyone you meet.

In closing, Rebeccah answers questions on how to heal and have healthy loving relationships, beginning with the most important person in your life, YOU.

  • Dr. Darlene Sampson on committing to practicing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
    Oct 21 2021

Author, social worker, educational consultant, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) trainer Dr. Darlene Sampson believes that right now, you can be changed for the better by listening to this podcast.  Host Rebeccah Silence wants to know what can those who enjoy skin color privilege do to be true allies to those who experience racism?  Because, for our fellow human beings who do suffer from racial discrimination, it’s exhausting.

As a Black woman Darlene knows how hurtful it can be to feel ‘invisible’ and she assists her clients in using empathy to break through false narratives on all forms of discrimination.  But, in DEI work, breakthrough can be scary.  Allyship can be costly so it’s important to know the risks.  For example, are you willing to call out a microaggression, say a racially charged comment or joke, on the job or online?

So where can we start?  By getting to know people who aren’t like us.  Who in your world doesn’t look, think and act like you?  Who did you learn as a child was bad and who was good?  Darlene says, “When we don’t know each other, that’s when we don’t care for each other.”  Therefore, it’s essential to seek opportunities to build relationships with people who are different from you.  And to be honest with yourself about how uncomfortable it may make you feel.  Knowing your biases is an important first step.

If you have privilege, recognize it and use it for good.  Let curiosity be your guide.  If someone tells you a story of the impact of racism in their lives, believe them; don’t minimize.  Instead, ask to hear more.  We can strengthen our empathic muscles by extending love and kindness to those who may not look like us, but who share our common human experience, and that makes us all more alike than we might think.

A powerful and conscious-raising conversation, Rebeccah and Darlene get to the heart of the matter and discuss ideas for taking action to build a better world and to eliminate racism and intolerance.  Don’t beat yourself us; wake up.  What can you do today that says you care?

  • Generational healing is possible, and the results are bigger than we are.
    Oct 7 2021

Generational healing begins with the person in a family system who bravely decides to break inherited pain patterns passed from parents to children, often without realizing it.  For most of us, our parents are our primary teachers, and their parents before them.  Cycles of abuse, poverty, or mental illness can continue to negatively impact future generations.  The good news?  Healing and transformation are possible, and the positive effects are just as far reaching!

Host Rebeccah Silence shares her journey to love and accept her body, which was a constant source of shame, passed down to her from her mother.  She made the decision to end the war with her body and instead radically appreciate it for all the joy it has brought her, sustaining not only her life, but that of her child.  It suddenly made sense that if she was still alive, even if she had cancer, her body was in fact fighting for her!  What an incredible breakthrough!

Extending that love to her mom represented another shift—the realization that her mother did the best she could, and she was not to blame.  Healing begins with acknowledging the patterns but taking responsibility for our own change, regardless of others.  It’s possible to do this transformational work without anyone’s support.  Instead focus on letting others love us the best way they know how.

The work of generational healing is bigger than the person who decides to make the change.  Future generations reap the benefits.  You can change the game.  You get to decide.  What’s the generational war you need to end?

Rebeccah answers questions on generational pain patterns with advice on how to heal.

  • Eric Plantenberg celebrates freedom and abundance at last!
    Sep 30 2021

Mountaineer, entrepreneur, extreme sports athlete, husband and father, Eric Plantenberg knows the power of breakthrough and living a free and abundant life.  He’s summited Mt. Everest.  He’s a four-time IRONMAN competitor.  He’s launched multiple businesses and done something else not many have done—spent time in a federal prison.  But he didn’t let that stop him from living his best life.  In fact, he used it to his advantage.

At the tender age of 17, as a college freshman, Eric decided he was going to live the life he wanted, not the one others wanted for him.  His choice, and his experience, led him to define freedom as the capacity to choose.  Yet, through trials, he also saw the difference between who people perceived him to be on the outside, and how he felt on the inside.  “I felt like I had arrived and was sucking at the same time,” he says of those early years.

If freedom is the capacity to choose, abundance comes in being present.  Even when things aren’t going well, take comfort in knowing that right here, right now, you are everything and have everything you need.  Don’t compare yourself to someone who looks like they have it all figured out.  Everyone is imperfect.

Eric defines breakthrough as the state of the mind, body and spirit being aligned.  Breakthrough, which can be physical or emotional, is growth over time with persistence.  Whether you’re learning a new skill or entering a new relationship, breakthrough takes work.  He recalls a powerful moment, a gift really, that his wife gave him—permission to be himself.  Despite all his success in business, up to that point he still didn’t know that he didn’t need to earn love.

Finally, Eric teaches that gratitude is a choice.  His challenge?  Make a list of what’s NOT going well in your life.  Make another list of all that your grateful for.  Now you can choose where to focus and your gratitude will be authentic because you aren’t ignoring what’s wrong.

Experiencing these four concepts of freedom, abundance, breakthrough and gratitude, Eric climbs all of life’s mountains, and you can too!

  • Artist Brianna Martray embraces the contrast of light and dark.
    Sep 23 2021

Brianna Martray decided in her mid-twenties that creating the life she truly wanted, that of a fulltime artist, was a risk worth taking.  As she became successful and demand for her work grew, she realized that one thing needed to change—end her alcohol addiction or die.

Brianna chose life and began the process of transforming her life breakthrough after breakthrough, one step at a time.  Taking a break from the studio to get sober taught her the power of eliminating negative self-talk and listening to her gut.  She wanted more than anything to realize her full potential as a sober person and as an artist, so she bravely took the path of discovering this new identity.

Even when we are clear about what we want, we still need to embrace the process of change which involves living with darkness, in other words, embrace the contrast.  Remaining open and aware of opportunities for growth, no matter how painful they may be, is the key to being your most authentic self.  The other key?  Being gentle with yourself throughout the process.  Brianna’s advice is to notice, without judgment, what is negative and gently redirect it to something positive.

Creativity, in all its forms, is cathartic and can lead to breakthrough.  After all, the purpose of art is the same as life, to share it, while loving others and ourselves deeply.

  • Hope is always available. Rebeccah reminds us to turn hope on!
    Sep 16 2021

What is your relationship with hope?  Are you afraid to hope?  Are you feeling hopeless?  Consider that there is no life without hope.  For host Rebeccah Silence staying connected to hope became her lifeline on her cancer journey.  She learned from her own experience and from thousands of others that hope brings light and life and when we choose to hope, we can face our fears and decide we have what it takes to win.

The outcome may be out of our control, but choosing hope is always within our grasp.  It may not be easy, but it is simple—as simple as fantasizing about what you DO want.  Having a vision for your life forces you to turn hope on and dial hope up.  Hope gives you access to your imagination and flirting with the possibilities.  Surrounding yourself with those who encourage you to hope will only strengthen your resolve.

Challenge, fear, doubt, hopelessness, they are all real.  But with hope you are more powerful than your circumstances.  Life can give you what you believe is possible.

Rebeccah answers questions encouraging everyone to put the power of hope to work.
