WARNING:  The is podcast portrays the emotional challenges (but is NOT explicit)  of a COVID nurse working in a negative pressure unit.  It is intended as a way to share this reality with people in a nurse’s or nurse’s aide’s life (or a respiratory therapist’s, a doctor’s, an APRN’s, PA’s, a housekeeper’s, or other staff in such a unit’s life). The portrayal may be hard for people in  any of these roles to listen to and it may be wise to have a trusted non-COVID impacted person listen to it first and give you an opinion on listening. I seek to bring hospital reality to the American public's awareness.  So, point folks to this podcast that may need to hear it.

  • COVID & Christmas

This episode presents a different view of what Christmas means and why the nursing profession specifically in the COVID pandemic exemplifies Christmas. Also, I am a new podcaster so I am somewhat low on the learning curve still

    Dec 17 2020
The "Setting The Stage" podcast provides a historical backdrop to what a nurse emotionally experiences via working in a COVID ward, an ER handling COVID patients and an ICU.  The history shared has value, because combatants in war and COVID nurses' emotional experiences have significant overlap.  It is also important to begin with military history, because a significant portion of the later podcast material is derived from research on coping done with US Marines, US Navy Sailors and US Army Soldiers who have fought in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait and in the Global War On Terror (GWOT).  These brave citizen combatants are the research pathfinders teaching all of us in the land of emotional survival in the combat zone. It is with the pioneers of the Viet Nam conflict that we begin.  Why?  Nurses cited this war as relevant to their COVID experiences.
