Rarely, will I tell you what you NEED to do. In fact, I live my life by your kitchen, your family, your land, YOUR rules. BUT on this one, I will say that you need some way to track your seed purchases! Especially if you are short on funds.

The reason why? To make sure that you are not purchasing more seed than you need but also not purchasing varieties that don't work for you.

Seed starting can be pretty intimidating. But it's probably the easiest part of gardening.

Sure, you can purchase plant starts from a big box store or nursery. But a lot of times those varieties are boring, don't grow well in your area or don't taste great.

Homesteading goals are a lot different than regular goals. You can be that type A goal setter, but you will burn out before you can ever truly enjoy the bounty.

Our first year homesteading, I was a type A goal setter. But I realized very quickly that setting a ton of HUGE goals for the homestead lead to frustration and burnout.

Because on a homestead, you are dealing with a lot of outside factors. Things like animals not having babies, gardens not producing, experience and knowledge and more.

In 2024, our goals are simple but easy to manage. They allow us to push the needle towards our 5 and 10 year goals without burning us out.
