    The Hillties are a 6 piece funk/rock/reggae/jam band from Nelson BC.  They are about to release their new album titled Sunshine on April 20.  To celebrate the release of the album there was a tour booked across British Columbia and Alberta, but in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic, the tour has been cancelled. 
    I spoke with Craig Beauchamp (Ukulele) and Sam Matthews (Guitar) in February as plans for the tour were being confirmed and final preparations were being made for the albums release. 
    We also caught up for a follow up conversation after many of he tour dates were cancelled to chat about the new strategy for releasing the album and what the future looks like,

    Al catches up with Bennu St. Clair at Sincerity Sound Studio as she's wrapping up the recording/mixing sessions for her debut single "People of The Earth".  Co-Produced with Barry Jones, this song is her urgent transmission for change.  Bennu opens up wide and talks about the writing of the song, the studio process, collaborating with new people, as well as her personal struggles and how they've translated into this beautiful and inspiring song.

    Cam has been polishing and realizing his musical identity for well over 20 years.  In this feature interview, he shares a full career perspective with stories about his roots growing up in Manitoba, discovering and cultivating a talent for music, building and managing his band The Gravel Road for over 10 years in Alberta and eventually finding his way to a new life and a new sound here in the Kootenays. We also talk about the songwriting/recording process, performing/touring, collaboration, and sound career advice.  He even breaks out a guitar for an exclusive live performance.

    Cam and his musical partner Jon Wood have recently wrapped up a tour stunning audiences in Alberta and BC and then bringing it back home(ish) at this year's Tiny Lights Festival in Ymir BC.  His new album At Was With Reason including the newly released vinyl edition is available now.  For more news and information about upcoming performances and tours you can visit Cam at:

    Ferdy is a Cranbrook based bass player and journalist who has recently been tapped to join Canadian rock icon Bif Naked's band.  They have already toured across Canada once and are gearing up for multiple gigs at sea aboard the Trailer Park Boys Cruise in March.  Ferdy also brings his bass to the fore in other Kootenay based bands such as Phaeton and Garuda.  He tells many tales of his experiences in the music scene over the past 30+ years.

    Feature Interview: Allison Girvan

    Allison is a Nelson based choral conductor, music and theatre educator and versatile vocalist.  She has been featured on albums and in concerts with Canadian Tenor John McDermott and released 2 solo recordings in collaboration with her husband, composer Don Macdonald.  She shares her musical story from the earliest days playing the clarinet, through over 2 decades of theatrical musical direction and up until the present where she is the director of numerous Nelson youth choirs and still stunning audiences with her own vocal performances.  www.allisongirvan.com
