Meh

I wanted to like this book so much, going through an intractable period of insomnia after my Beautiful 15 year old’s sudden and traumatic death.

I just found it kind of jumpy, a bit random, maybe a bit weirdly thought out?, learned some interesting sleep facts but not much practical to help me with my current predicament beyond the standard ‘make your bedroom for sleeping only, no electronic devices, melatonin’ etc. Also not really relaxing except for the start of each chapter where David is whispering into his mic, unable to sleep.

Was glad when it was over so I could look somewhere else. Sorry David. Just not for me.

interesting sleep series

It was a very interesting and insightful series on sleep and how to get more of it and better sleep.
David Baddiel is an entertaining presenter/narrator in his own funny way.
My favorite part was probably the part on lucid dreaming while sleeping and a how to, but am going to find out more on that later with Charlie the guest speaker. He has audibles on it too.

Could be better

The info was great and I get that the host is a comedian and has insomnia but it was far too self indulgent for me and became quite irritating.

His own cynicism and neuroses was prioritised over valuable info from the experts and he spoke over them in parts.
It felt as though he was self conscious, or not supported or structured enough.

If you like this audiobook, Dr Michael Mosley pulls it off a little better in his book about sleep.

A great listen except for the outcome.

I thought the presentation of this program to be quite well done. However, most of the experts recommendations he failed to carry through with. It would have been more (or less) inspiring if he had continued and either seen results or given the tasks a comparable amount of time to discount them.
I like that he stated this problem towards the end but would recommend he has another good go and maybe does a sequel episode.

Overall I think it's worth a listen for those with someone in their life suffering from sleep problems but take it with a grain of salt.

Insomniacs of the world unite!

Very interesting dive into the weird world of sleep disorders with the help of Neurologist Guy Leschziner. It is fairly weighted towards causes and treatments for insomnia due to David Baddiel's personal decades-long search for a cure (not too much there for us hypersomniacs) but that's ok because insomnia is far more common. I was also inspired to buy Dr Leschziner's book The Nocturnal Brain.

Entertaining, motivational and interesting.

The book was if anything all too short. I will certainly be looking for more on this topic.

Jumbled

The order the parts of this podcast outline my feelings after listening to this podcast 5,3,2,4,1,6. I feel a number of great ideas were outlined, however after a large amount of "flip flopping" backwards and forwards on the topics. I came out without a definite impression of whether any of the topics were good for sleep or bad for sleep. On a positive note, this podcast inspired me to read more about this topic and I have now started reading Why we sleep by Matthew Walker.
