    This Episode

In today's episode, we listen to Bonnie Hewitt, an anxiety coach who understands her topics very deeply from firsthand experiences. Going through a number of mental health challenges, which led to physical health challenges, and thus a cycle of difficult health, Bonnie learned to overcome in a way  that allows her to help others with their challenges in a meaningful, practical, and powerful way.

Today we talk about everything from anxiety and health, to goals and even education. We seek to understand why we often react to situations the way we do and unpick how that has led to the responses we have now.

    Today's Guest

    Bonnie Hewitt:

"Nearly a decade ago while working as an accountant and raising my two children alone, I was struck down by a rare illness and left paralyzed. Guillain Barre Syndrome had attacked my immune system and attempted to take me out. It didn't succeed."

"Over the past 10 years I've been diagnosed with multiple chronic health conditions, had two more children, and attempted to go back to my old life only to realize, that's not where I was supposed to be going. I had to let go of who I was in order to find out who I was really meant to be."

"Fast forward to 2021 and I've healed more than just my body and mind, but also my soul. I managed to start a business, and pitch my way to winning $50K in cash and prizes on David Meltzer's new Bloomberg TV show, 2 Minute Drill."

"I am currently scaling my apparel business Posh Notions, learning to speak writing my first book, and helping others manage and calm their anxiety through coaching them with what I've learned. I'm also raising kiddos, continuing to heal, protecting my energy, and sipping my favorite dark coffee. Making my way a little each day. :)"

  • BONUS - World Mental Health Day and Podcast Reflections
    Oct 11 2021

Our mental health can get trapped in a cycle. One of the most unfair parts of life is that often the tools we most need for change are the ones we don't have because we haven't achieved making those changes yet.

So in this episode, we briefly cover three learnings through this show that can help us overcome that:

    1. The habits, routines, and mindsets we can create which help us slowly build up the strength to break our cycles.
    2. The connections and support that we can both give to others and receive from others which give us the energy to break our cycles.
    3. The actions we can take ourselves to feel more joyous, alive, and human that help give us the energy to break our cycles.

Days like World Mental Health Day, and indeed any day that you acknowledge the forces that play a part in your life, are chances to reflect. Let's all be there for ourselves - and for others - on the days we are needed most!

    This Episode

In today's episode, we listen to James (Jim) Elliott, a leader in the armed forces who also coaches athletes and became educated in matters of the brain. Jim and I talk today about how his life took him into the armed forces, but that as his mental health started to be impacted, he learned how important it was to destigmatise mental health and make it accessible to everyone. That led him to learn more about it and learn to make it accessible for others in his industry.

We also begin to talk about how this can relate to all leaders, and how in our experience, it all boils down to happiness. What makes us happy? Why? And how can we create more of that in our everyday lives?

    Today's Guest

A passionate and reliable resiliency and well-being coach, with over 6 years of coaching experience from both national league rugby teams, to special forces, to Olympian athletes and a corporate environment, James Elliott has a wealth of knowledge in the designing, development and delivery of mental resilience training programmes.

James Elliott was selected to be an instructor in the British Army’s first Army Parachute Jumping Instructor’s platoon, where he began his qualifications, in both mental health and sports psychology. He supported others by coaching them through anxiety regulation and emotional control. It would be this experience that would be so influential to James Elliott’s mental resiliency coaching career, enabling him to help develop the MRT (Mental Resilience Training) currently on offer within the military and eventually to be delivered across the entirety of the British Army, including special forces and soldiers on testing deployments, on either a one on one basis or as a group.
