  • Episode 72: Ryan Shuck (Adema, Julien-K, ex-Orgy, ex-Dead by Sunrise) 8-9-2022
    Aug 12 2022
I sit down on Skype and talk to Ryan Shuck of the bands Adema and Julien-K, and formerly of Orgy and Dead by Sunrise. We discuss Ryan's start in music in the band Sexart with Jonathan Davis from Korn, how that friendship led to Orgy signing with Korn's label Elementree Records, why the original lineup of Orgy disbanded, and whether there is a possibility of ever reuniting. We also cover how issues at the end of the original lineup of Orgy led to the formation of Julien-K, how Ryan's friendship with Chester Bennington led to the collaboration between Julien-K and Chester called Dead by Sunrise, and how the creative process for Julien-K compared to that of Orgy. On the Adema front we discuss the band's tumultuous relationship with original singer Marky Chavez, why some of the band's later material is not available to stream on Spotify, how Ryan became the band's latest singer, and what their plans are for the future. And of course, we discuss Ryan's thoughts on the current state of the music industry. Podcast intro "Rock Intro 3" courtesy of audionautix.com. May 25 2020
Jason Emery, aka Pretty Boy Jay, aka Vessel returns to the show for a second attempt at discussing Black Metal. We talk about his bands Cryptic and Nocturnal Torment, including how they were formed and where they are now. He also discusses why he doesn't release his music in the traditional sense, and that you can only get it if you know him, or know someone that knows him. We then approach the more general topic of the Black Metal genre as a whole. Jay explains what black metal is including the sound, how it makes you feel, and and why there is some debate as to whether or not certain bands are Black Metal. Jay also gives his opinion on the different subgenres of Black Metal.
