    Nehemiah's Heart to Please God

We talk about the final verse in the book of Nehemiah, where Nehemiah asks God to remember him for good. We discuss how Nehemiah's heart was to please God, and how that should be our desire as well - to live a life that is faithful and pleasing to God.

Nehemiah and Ezra: Faithful Leaders Who Addressed Issues Directly

We discuss how Nehemiah and Ezra, despite the Israelites' continued mistakes, did not fail as leaders. They faithfully addressed issues based on God's word, which is what we need in leaders - whether pastors, friends, or spouses - who will confront problems directly and honestly.

Eliashib's Corruption and the Challenge of Idolatry

We talk about the interaction between Eliashib and Tobiah in the beginning of chapter 13, where Eliashib has been given the responsibility of the chambers in the temple and chooses to favor Tobiah, who has worked against Israel, by giving him a place to live in the temple. This is a physical example of idolatry, where the right things have been taken out and the wrong thing has been put in. We are challenged to examine our own hearts and lives, and ask God to show us what wrong things we may have put in place of the right things.

    Worship Leads to Joy

We talk about how genuine true worship leads to joy. The Bible verse from Nehemiah 12:43 shows how the people celebrated with great sacrifices and rejoicing, as God had made them rejoice. Worship can change your day, as it takes the focus off ourselves and puts it on God's goodness. The challenge is to spend 5 minutes worshiping through song, prayer, or reflecting on God's blessings.

    The Contagious Effects of Thankfulness

We talk about how one thankful person can change the whole vibe in a room, and how Nehemiah reveals the contagious effects of thankfulness in the Bible. We see how Nehemiah led two thanksgiving choirs to walk the city wall, filling the air with gratitude. The Hebrew word for thanksgiving refers to songs that praise God exuberantly and acknowledge his blessings. Gratitude is contagious and spreads hope, so we're challenged to think of three things we're thankful for today and share that with God and someone else.

Using Your Unique Gifts to Serve God's Plan

We talk about how in Nehemiah chapter 11, every person's role was vital to the success of the community. Just like then, God has given each of us unique gifts and talents to serve him and accomplish his will. I challenge you to think of one way you can use your gifts to serve your church, family, friends, or someone at school this week.
