  • 西海市にほど近い佐世保には海上自衛隊・佐世保地方隊の護衛艦が配備されていますが、毎年これら護衛艦同士で『GC1グランプリ』という海上自衛隊伝統のカレーの味を競い合うイベントが行われています。2013年にグランプリに輝いたのは護衛艦さわぎりの『イカ墨+ 牛すじカレー』！このように歴代のグランプリに輝いた護衛艦のカレーのいくつかは今、レトルトカレーとして売られています！
