    Central Motor Speedway in Cromwell paid tribute to former President and competitor recently with the running of the Daryl Ainsley Memorial, a meeting held in very high stature amongst the speedway community.The event started with an emotional tribute as all drivers and crews worked their way out onto the track and faced turn two, where club President Andy Erskine would address the crowd before passing over to Daryl Ainsley's daughter Faith to also say a few words.The pair then uncovered a stunning tribute, a wooden seat with Daryl's famous number five etched into it, there for not just family, but anyone to sit and enjoy the racing and reflect on a top bloke who did so much for the club....

  • Driven By Dirt Race Report: Central Drivers Clean Sweep Southland Stockcar Champs

    A precious piece of silverware will remain in Central Otago for the winter months with drivers from the Central Motor Speedway club taking all three spots on the podium, however none of them were the reigning champion Casey McEwan who did enter but couldn't retain his crown.


    A big field of Stockcars were on hand at Aotea Electric Riverside Speedway to contest the Southland Stockcar Championship, one of two Southland Titles on the line as what was Riverside's biggest meeting of the season, the ILT Fireworks Extravaganza.A massive crowd rolled up on what was an absolutely stunning day in the deep south, for a number of attendees this was their first ever taste of speedway action, while for many families, this was the one meeting of the season they come to, taking in a great day of racing on track, finished off by an astonishing Fireworks display.

  • Driven By Dirt Race Report: Boulton Brilliance Steals The Show At Beachlands

    Dunedin could not have put on a better night for racing, with the sun shining, good fields of cars across all the grades and a bumper crowd in attendance which is not always easy on a Friday night, but the team at Custom Signs Beachlands Speedway pulled it off, hosting the Synergy Cup for Super Saloons, the final round of The Pits Media Trophy for Youth, Saloon Top Gun and the Best Pairs Trophy for Streetstocks.

    The Synergy Cup for Super Saloons rose from the ashes of what was the Xtreme Dirt Series which was cancelled late last year. A small but quality field was entered to run at Beachlands on the Friday night, and Central Motor Speedway on the Saturday, a meeting which would unfortunately sucumbe to a rain out.

    Aotea Electric Riverside Speedway was once known as the home of Modified Sprints with about twenty cars registered to the club at the peak of its popularity just a few short years ago.

    This season just one Modified Sprint is registered to the Southern club, so the return of Modified Sprints for the first time this season saw a good sized crowd roll up to take in these pint sizes rockets in action, with round three of the Avon Insurance Brokers South Island Modified Sprint Series.......
