Almost Paradise

By: Ted Ludlum
  • Summary

  • In the beginning, God created a paradise. And then we messed it up! Today, living in North Idaho is almost paradise. ALMOST. Yes, the weather is often fantastic. There are 4 distinct seasons offering hunting, fishing, hiking, boating, canoeing, rafting, ATV trips, snow skiing, and more. Lakes and streams are everywhere. Mountains dominate the horizons, The forests are endless. Small towns (2 traffic-lights in our county!) dot the area. Independent minded, (mostly) conservative people live in these towns. But... summers are short and can get hot for a while. Smoke can fill the air from area wildfires. Winters are long, cloudy, snowy. Those days are short with the sun rising late and setting early. Liberal ideas are creeping in. The Good Old Boy Network is strong. Even here there is conflict. But Jesus reigns! Living in North Idaho is ALMOST paradise.

  • Donuts, Cakes, and Pie...Oh My!
    Nov 21 2024

Ted faces some difficult decisions this weekend, as Bonners Ferry will have three holiday and craft shows to choose from. Should he go to one, two, or all three? Joy says, ALL THREE!

While his credit card says, "Oh no!" His tummy says, "Yippee!" These shows offer more than crafts and gifts; they also offer lots of pies, cakes, cinnamon rolls, donuts, and other goodies too numerous to list.

Plus, the first snowfall of the year has blanketed the area. Yes, it is beginning to look (and feel) a lot like Christmas.

But Joy reminds us the real point of these shows is seeing and talking to old friends and making new ones.

Ted agrees. But he reminds us that there is also nothing wrong with having a good piece of pie simultaneously.

  • America's Coming Back!

Ted apologizes for being a loose nut behind the microphone. But he is learning. He is also excited about many things this week. Ted explains how Kansas led us from Armistice Day to today's Veteran's Day. Ted also reminds us there are always two sides to every story. He encourages us to check out the upcoming movie, Wicked, to learn the witch's side of the story. What was going on in the land of Oz...before Dorothy? The election made Ted happy and gave him hope. Is Trump's election a blessing for our country? Is Trump, really such an evil dude? What might God be saying to us? Meanwhile, Joy admits Ted was right...3 times in one day!! And a woman tells Ted that Terry is a rather good-looking guy. NO WAY!
