About this listen
The bestselling fitness and self-improvement book for breaking through mental resistance and barriers, building unshakeable discipline, and keeping your goals alive when things get tough.
Fitness isn’t everything. But everything is harder if you aren’t fit.
Because the muscle and strength that you gain from working out is less important than the person you become by working out:
● You become a person who understands that growing into the best version of themselves necessarily includes getting into great shape.
● You become a person who never underestimates the power of simply believing in themselves and always looks for reasons to bet on their hand.
● You become a person who realizes they can achieve far more than they thought they were capable of.
And that’s why I wrote this positive lifestyle habits book:
To help you become that person by sharing insights from scientific research, compelling stories, and practical strategies for staying motivated when setbacks, failure, and self-doubt makes you want to give up.
Here’s a sneak peek of what you’ll find inside this motivation book:
● The "What, When, Where, If, Then" formula that will rewire your thinking for more consistency inside and outside of the gym.
● Three simple questions that will reveal your true "why" for fitness and unlock a wellspring of motivation that will keep you going even when it's hard.
● How to stop sabotaging your progress with complaining and negativity and develop a solution-oriented mindset that empowers you to take action.
● Warren Buffett's "2 List Strategy" for prioritizing your goals, eliminating distractions, and achieving laser focus and maximum productivity.
● How to use “productive pessimism” to avoid what scientists call the positivity paradox and cultivate a balanced mindset that will turn self-doubt into self-belief.
● And more
The bottom line is getting fit is like doing anything that most people fail at.
It's harder than you think it'll be. It'll take longer than you think it'll take. You'll make way more mistakes than you want to make.
But there’s also this:
You can't fail unless you give up.
So, if you’re feeling overwhelmed in your fitness; struggling with laziness, procrastination, or self-doubt; or trying to reignite your passion for working out …
… and if you want strategies for developing a resilient mindset that will empower you to stick with your fitness for the long haul …
… then you want to read this self discipline book for women and men today.

Loved the book! I found it to be motivating, inspiring and helpful on so many levels!
Before reading your book I was in a slump. My motivation was gone not just for training, but for life. My work, my home life, everything was suffering because of the headspace I was in.
I have just finished the book and at this point in time I am pumped! I’m looking forward to training and my work ethic is better than it’s been in years! I’m doing things with purpose and with goals in mind.
There are many things in the book that are helpful not just for training but for life. I definitely recommend this book for anyone that is looking for a help in making better life choices and becoming the best version of themselves.
Since reading the book there has been times that I’ve had to make a choice on a certain situation and I have made the right choice, the choice that gets me closer to achieving my goals instead of the taking the easy and lazy way out.
It’s motivating, inspiring and truly helpful.
Fully recommend!

Definitely worth your time.
This is a comprehensive book which illuminates the importance of understanding the process of motivation and how to achieve your objectives. So pleased that I found this as I very recently swapped HIT after one year for weight training. The detailed subject matter was excellent & author delivers on a very interesting narrative reading it himself & evident that he closely connected to the material. Just finished TLS so it was also for me a good consolidation of topics I had already been introduced to. The book finished too quickly but there is a lot of content to digest & looking forward to further listenings to take some notes. Overall I enjoyed it immensely. Anyone on a fitness journey or not would really benefit from the information in this book. Well referenced for further reading & it doesn’t disappoint.

Well written and researched. Great motivational tools.
Thanks Michael for collating such a well researched and written book. It was easy to listen to and understand the fact based motivational tools and techniques.
While the content is focused on workout motivation, I believe the tools and techniques can be applied across broader spectrums.
The bonus materials provide a succinct overview of the exercises discussed in the book and really help to kick start applying the techniques.

Not just for workout motivation!
Loved this book. I stopped and started listening at the beginning as I was travelling and thought this would only apply to workout motivation. However, the more I listened the more I realised this approach applies to your whole life. Looking forward to implementing the techniques both for my workouts and life in general. A massive thanks to Michael Matthews. I will be re-listening and telling my friends.

A repeat read
Great philosophy for life in general, not just for exercise enthusiasts.
I especially enjoyed the "letter to Garcia" based chapter.

Really engaging narration, the content is a nice mixture of emotive motivational material for the gym, psychological insight, quotes and really accessible life advice. Just an all round fantastic listen, probably give a few chapters another spin. Thanks Mike!
