Dass Fritz Reuter den burlesken Reisebericht im Untertitel eine "poetische Erzählung" nennt, geschieht mit Augenzwinkern. Und doch: Ganz unrecht hat er mit dem Untertitel nicht, denn in die schwankhaft erzählten Reisegeschichten hinein ist eine durchaus zart-poetische Liebesgeschichte verwoben.
