William F. Wu is a longtime writer of science fiction and fantasy novels and short stories. Originally from the Kansas City area, he attended the University of Michigan, where he received a doctoral degree in American Culture. His "cyberwestern" Hong on the Range, a satire of westerns, was chosen by the American Library Association, Booklist, and the Library Journal for their Recommended and Best of the Year lists. His first novel, MasterPlay, is based on a novelette that appeared in Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine in 1979, and presented professionals who play virtual reality wargames. The story and novel are among the earliest to predict these subjects. He may be best known for contemporary fantasy short stories, such as "Wong's Lost and Found Emporium," a multiple award nominee that was adapted into an episode of the Twilight Zone in 1985. Collections of his short stories are reprinted in ebook and sometimes in trade paperback and audiobook editions.
