Vayu Naidu’s fiction is inspired by the unnoticed drama of daily events that challenge and change us. British History and Indian myth are milestones in her landscape. Dualities and paradox shape the characters while irony steers her narrative; the voice switches as easily from first to third person. She draws on the oral traditions of Storytelling to make the story present. It is about one woman's epic battle against all odds and recognising what it is to be human. It is experienced through a family's secrets (1862-1916), set in colonial Madras and Norfolk. 'The Threepillars of a good novel are texture, narrative and detail. Composers Judith Weir, Contemporary Music groups and orchestras continue to inspire her work as a performance Storyteller. About: Dr. Vayu Naidu's PhD from The Workshop Theatre, The University of Leeds was on selected performance oral traditions from India on RAMAYANA and Peter Brook's experiments with storytelling for worldwide audiences with MAHABHARATA. Her training and performances as a Soloist composing and performing Storytelling is inspired by darsana/visible and immersive through rasa/emotive threads with binapatrika/original and improvised narrative. Her Arts and Humanities Research Council Creative & Performing Arts Post Doc Fellowship was working with Storytelling in Migration, Mental Health, Assisted Learning and training Apprentices. As Chair of the Black British Theatre Archives, and actively engaged in Diversity from primary literacy to Higher Education and research Vayu Naidu Company commissioned and curated histories and collective memory of being diaspora and British. Her work with British Theatres (Leicester, London, Canterbury and Touring) as well as her academic writing accompanies her Radio Plays for BBC 4. Her forthcoming novel integrates Theatre and the circulation of histories while a Research Associate at CCPLS, SOAS.
