When I published my first novel, Brother Bot and the Dark Matter Hum, I had some slight trepidation that my humble novel might catch on and I would inherit the many ignominies of celebrity.  Since I have always abhorred even attempting to address a crowd of more then six humans, celebrity was the last thing I wanted.  So I decided to hide behind a slightly altered nom de plume, V.A. Nelson.  Now that Brother Bot has been out for some time and is not exactly a massive hit, it is clear to me that my cherished obscurity is in little danger, so I can safely admit that I am Verl Nelson, not just V.A. Unfortunately, since I have now used two different author names, Amazon insists that I have two different author pages: one for Verl and one for V.A. I’d like to combine them but I can’t. Sorry. I was born in the Pacific Northwest and I've lived most of my life here. My wife and I live a quiet life in a small town.  Unlike Bot we have no alpacas, mini-Nubian goats, Brabant stallions or magpie ducks. We do have a garden that we tend and nurture.  Bot was my first novel.  Then came the children’s book, A Papaya for Professor Poipott and finally the cartoons, Welcome to the State of Perplexity. While I’ve enjoyed the creative process of all three, none have proven to pose any threat to my nobodyness. I suffer from a classic creative insecurity: on one level I really like my own writing, my ideas and my imagery.  And at the same time I have nagging doubts that my stuff is any good at all.  I keep thinking that someday one or the other of these competing beliefs will carry the day, but so far, no.  I just bounce back and forth between the two.   Be that as it may, I hope some of you out there will enjoy Bot or Professor Poipott or the many quandaries of Kenneth. Who could ask for more?
