Born in Chicago, Stephen Amidon is the author of a collection of short stories, two works of non-fiction, and eight novels. including Security, Human Capital, and most recently Locust Lane. Stephen Amidon's books have been published in sixteen countries. They have been selected as New York Times editors' choice books and appeared on many best of the year lists. Jonathan Yardley, chief critic of the Washington Post, selected Human Capital as one of the five best novels of 2004. An award-winning, Italian film version of Human Capital, Il Capitale Umano, directed by Paolo Virzi, was released in 2014. In 2020 Liev Schreiber starred in an American remake of Il Capitale Umano, Human Capital, which was directed by Marc Meyers. In 2021 an Italian movie of Security, starring Marco D'Amore, received a worldwide release and chart success on Netflix.
