I have been riding since 1985, my exploits started in the British Army as a young 16 year old. I absolutely hated motorbikes and wondered why the hell I joined the Royal Corps of Transport. Years later I started to get to grips with riding a motorcycle and started to understand how to control it and not just be perched on top of it as a passenger. Even when I was in control, I still did not enjoy it. A few years went by and I became a motorcycle instructor, this changed my opinion on motorbikes and it wasn’t the bike that was dangerous, it was me. I developed a passion for training other people how to ride by sharing my knowledge, for me this has been a very worthwhile experience. I thrive on passing on information to other riders to help them improve their ability and skill with high level guidance and coaching. I can now say this has been a passion of mine since 1991 when I returned form the first Gulf War. I left the Army and started a motorcycle business, helping learner riders to pass their test. As a business we also deliver high level guidance delivering advanced motorcycle training as well. There is something magical about helping someone achieve what they think is impossible and the biggest buzz comes from seeing their development and ultimately passing their test. The touring side of my business has been a passion to me since we started taking ex-students abroad to venture further afield and have their own adventures. The pinnacle is to give people confidence to do tours on their own. It doesn’t matter how big or small the tour is but the fact they do it is proof to me that it works and I see my role as complete. I have travelled extensively in my military days, riding all around Germany and Europe and occasionally on a bike in different places around the world. It wasn’t until I left the army that I had my own bike and fell in love with touring. I enjoy the freedom of the open road abroad and the traffic free stretches of twisty roads and of course the social aspect when we stop in a new place every day. We get to visit places tourists don’t go to or get to see. My motorcycle travels have taken me to Istanbul on a big ride to Asia. I have ridden around Europe and led a group tour to Montenegro and ridden extensively around Portugal and northern Spain. The shorter trips I organise are to northern France, to help novice tourers experience touring for the first time abroad. I help and guide them from start to finish with tips and advice, this is another passion. Future plans are to ride into every Country in Europe including Scandinavia and a big trip is in the making to Mongolia or even further afield. There will be some Motorcycle Riders Hub trips organised on a regular basis throughout the year, which will be open to all members who want to travel abroad in a group with like minded people. Some will be advanced training tours and others will be a getaway to find some great roads and tasty food (my tours have been described as gastro tours as I like good food too). Keep your eyes peeled for more blogs and information about what's coming.
