Samuel Turvey is a Professor of Conservation Biology at the Institute of Zoology, Zoological Society of London. He is based in South West England, and has previously lived in Finland and New Zealand. His work aims to understand how science can inform and guide conservation for the world’s rarest animal species. This research involves using ecology, the fossil record, and Indigenous knowledge to gain novel conservation insights. He has conducted extensive work in China, southeast Asia and the Caribbean, and has published over 200 scientific papers and academic book chapters, including in Nature and Science. He was awarded the Linnean Medal in 2019 for his contributions to zoology.
