Samieh Hezari was born in 1971 in Rasht City in the North of Iran. She is the eldest child and the only daughter in her family. Her childhood was filled with the horrors of the revolution and the trauma of war which forced her to seek refuge among books and writing. However, Samieh had the good fortune to have a very supportive family and her father always encouraged her to read and write providing her with a variety of literary material. Samieh emigrated to Ireland in search of freedom and with the dream of becoming a medical doctor but when this turned out to be prohibitively expensive she obtained a degree in business and finance and has worked in various financial roles since that time. She has also worked as a teacher of English to university graduates in Iran. ‘Trapped in Iran’ is Samieh’s first book and it is an account of her long battle for the freedom of her daughters and herself. She was motivated to write this book through her observations of the many young women in Iran who were struggling to establish themselves and to obtain the freedoms that women take for granted in other parts of the world. The purpose of this book is to inform the world of what is happening behind the closed doors of Iranian society.
