EARLY LIFE Rick was born in Ventura, California, in 1966 and soon moved to Northern California. He spent his early years in rural Napa Valley, surrounded by nature and animals. At 12, his family relocated to Napa, where he attended private school before transferring to Napa High, playing football, and later joining the Marine Corps in 1986. CAREER After boot camp, Rick served as an anti-tank gunner with the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, deploying twice before leaving active duty. He then returned to Napa, putting himself through the police academy while working part-time. His law enforcement career began in East Palo Alto before moving to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. There, he served in Street Crimes, SWAT, Narcotics, and Homicide, eventually rising to Lieutenant before retiring. WRITING Rick discovered his passion for writing in 1994 while working nights at the county jail. Initially drawn to screenwriting, he later transitioned to novels, leading to the publication of A World Slowed and many other exciting titles in both the post apocalyptic genre as well as science fiction and thriller genres. More recently, Rick has begun narrating his work in his own voice. This will be a slow moving project that he hopes will end with every book he's written being available in audio format.
