I am an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Vermont, where I teach courses on international relations and Middle East politics. My academic work focuses on religion and international security. My first book, Islamic Politics, Muslim States and Counterterrorism Tensions, was recently published by Cambridge University Press. Before coming to the University of Vermont I worked with the Pew Research Center and the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism, and consulted with the US government on counterterrorism issues. I have a Ph.D. from Georgetown University and a B.A. from Vassar College, and am originally from southeast PA. My fiction writing explores the connections between the great civilizations of ancient Mesopotamia and the rise of Biblical worship.
