Pete Owen enlisted in the Marines from Virginia Beach, Virginia in 1981. He later graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, where he majored in history. Pete deployed to Iraq in 1991 as a platoon commander from 2d Recon Battalion and in 2003 as the XO of the First Marine Regiment. Pete has led Marines on battlefield walks at Spotsylvania Courthouse, Kennesaw Mountain, Belleau Wood, and Iwo Jima. Pete is the author of "To the Limits of Endurance: A Battalion of Marines in the Great War," "Fighting Falcons: The Campaigns of VMF-221 in the Pacific," and, with LtCol John Swift, co-author of "A Hideous Price: The 4th Brigade at Blanc Mont, 2-10 October 1918." Pete also edited "Over There: A Marine in the Great War" and "The World War I Memoirs of Don V. Paradis Gunnery Sergeant, USMC." He earned a PhD in war studies from the Royal Military College of Canada.
