I have always loved all things historical, from school right through university where I studied Anglo-Saxon History. Now, in my "mid" forties, I finally realised my dream of publishing my first historical novel (To the Devil His Due) based on the British plan, devised by the Special Operations Executive, to assassinate Hitler: a plan that was, of course, never put into action. Since then I have embarked upon a series of books, collectively entitled The Huscarl Chonicles, which follow the story of a young Saxon warrior who finds himself in the front line of the Saxon defence against the Norman invaders. The first book - Thurkill's Revenge - is set in the second half of 1066 and deals with the Norse and Norman invasions of that year and Thurkill' subsequent struggle to protect his aunt and sister from Count Richard FitzGilbert, who has taken over his father's estates in Kent. The next in the series - Thurkill's Battle - has just been published (Oct 2019). Thurkill has left Kent to journey to London where a new Saxon King has been declared: Edgar, last male heir of the House of Wessex and a fifteen year old boy to boot. Despite his best efforts, though, Edgar soon capitulates and Duke William is crowned on Christmas Day 1066. Sick of fighting, Thurkill moves north with Hild - his wife to be - where he takes the lordship of a village. His hopes for a new and peaceful life are dashed, however, when a ghost from his past returns in the shape of Count Robert FitzGilbert; brother of Count Richard.
