Patrick Mullane grew up a military brat and the son of an astronaut. His memoir, "The Father, Son, and Holy Shuttle," recounts his awkward teenage years, when he often felt like the hapless nerd in a John Hughes film as he strove to become a hero to others as his father was to him. "Mullane's Guide to Learning to Fly: Deep Dives into Select Topics for Today's Student Pilot," is a unique look at becoming a pilot from discovery ride to FAA checkride. Mullane blends his own story of learning to fly later in life with instruction and insights that help those who wish to pursue the same dream. His novel, "The Unseen Threads," tells the story of Heather, a teenaged girl who dies unexpectedly and then lives life again through two people who are the beneficiaries of her organ and tissue donation - a woman, Melissa, who receives her heart, and a man, Gabe, who receives her corneas. As Gabe and Melissa fall in love, Heather lives life again through them, learning that they are connected in unexpected ways to those she knew and loved when she was alive. It is after her death that Heather truly lives.
