Bio NICK DIMAURO·MONDAY, MARCH 30, 2020· Nick studied acting at the Feagin School of Drama in New York after graduating from high school. While in his senior year, author James Cavan selected Nick to appear in his off Broadway play, “Turnstile”. Nick received critical acclaim in Show Business Magazine for his performance. Producer Guy Palmerton saw Nick in a play and offered him an opportunity to appear in summer stock in Boston. He could not accept Palmerton’s offer, due to the military draft during the Korean War. He was inducted in the army and sent to Germany where he entertained troops in addition to his other duties. He was discharged honorably and married Patricia Keyser with whom he had four children. He studied voice and opera at Wilkes College under Ferdinand Liva, world famous violinist and conductor of the Scranton Symphony. Nick performed with the Hazleton Philharmonic and sang the fourth act of the opera “Aida” with the Scranton Symphony. Nick needed to find a job and was hired by Allegheny Airlines in 1956, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He transferred to Hazleton, Pennsylvania as an agent and was promoted to manager of flight operations in DuBois Pennsylvania after three years. He was promoted to manager in Baltimore two years later, where he studied voice with Igor Chicagov and auditioned with the Baltimore Opera Company. Put under contract, he appeared in nine major operas by Verdi, Puccini and Bizet among others. He was again promoted to manager in Erie, Pennsylvania 1966. He auditioned with the Erie Opera and was given the role of Samson in the opera “Samson and Delilah”. While in rehearsals for “Samson”, he was asked to sing for the Mario Lanza fan club in Philadelphia to celebrate Mario’s birthday. Eighteen months later, he was promoted to manager at LaGuardia Airport in New York in 1967. Upon hearing Nick sing at a convention, an audition was set-up in New York after which he was given an opportunity to record his first album “Being Alive” with noted arranger, Fred Baravick. Thirty-six musicians were hired and the album received airplay on major radio stations throughout the country. It was heard by Tony Tamburello, Tony Bennett’s Music Supervisor, and he offered Nick an opportunity to record an album. This was a major production featuring fifty-six musicians of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. “What the World Needs Now” was recorded in 1974. He performed in Dangerfields’ Night Club, Colony Hill, The Stork Club and other venues, and was interviewed on television, radio, newspapers and magazines. Several critics gave great reviews. William Lafler , critic for United Press International, wrote a two column review that appeared in eight hundred newspapers world wide. During this time, he was promoted to Regional Director in charge of fourteen airport operations from New York to Florida. After performing for over thirty years, and working with the airline for thirty-four years, it was time to retire from both. His final performance was at Colony Hill venue on Long Island, New York, where he received three standing ovations. Wow! What a way to go out! The airline employment was considered to be the “day job”. Just in case!
