Growing up in Pella, Iowa, surrounded by Dutch heritage and tulip gardens, I found my voice through storytelling in my early teens. What began as scribbled short stories in school notebooks evolved into a lifelong passion for writing that has taken me from children's tales to complex adult fiction. My journey took an especially meaningful turn when my daughter Andrea and I founded Andlia Books, where we collaborate on creating coloring books that bring joy to others. There's something magical about working together, blending our creative visions into something we can share with the world. When I'm not writing or designing, you'll likely find me volunteering at local cat rescues – a cause close to my heart that has led to more than a few "failed fosters" becoming permanent family members. My home is my sanctuary, filled with the warmth of rescued cats, the aroma of experimental recipes (some more successful than others!), and countless notebooks filled with story ideas. Being an introvert, I find my inspiration in quiet moments: morning walks through nature, the purring of content cats, and the peaceful satisfaction of creating something new in my kitchen. These simple pleasures fuel my creativity and find their way into my stories, reminding me that sometimes the most extraordinary tales come from ordinary moments.
