OK - quiet down the back please! Myles Dungan is an Irish historian, broadcaster and occasional writer of fiction. He has written on subjects as far apart as the American West and the House of Commons, and as closely connected as serial killing and professional golf. He was won absolutely no awards whatever for writing, as far as he can remember—his memory isn't great—but he is embarrassed to admit that he does have a few for broadcasting. Relax, you don't need to know. He has interviewed everyone from Dan Marino to Grace Jones (Grace was far more intimidating) and has spent two semesters as a Fulbright scholar in the greatest academic establishment on the planet. This, as everyone knows is ...... (come on, three dots is enough!) the University of California, Berkeley. He once called the Irish government Chief Whip the 'cheap whiff', and inquired of a woman who had just had a child, 'where does it hurt?'*. Both incidents were on live radio and therefore could not be deleted. In the 1980s and 90s he presented a number of sports programmes on Irish TV and was briefly held on suspicion of contravention of the Offences Against Good Taste (Knitwear) Act, 1981 for some highly questionable jumpers. However, despite unpleasant rumours to the contrary he has never EVER sported a mullet. He got a bit tired of writing history and then heard about this other thing called fiction, where you can just make stuff up. He thought he would try that for a while. You can judge the results for yourself. He presents The History Show on Irish national radio (RTÉ Radio 1) and is Programme Director of the Hinterland Book Festival (www.hinterland.ie). One position is paid and one isn't. Guess which is which. He has no previous convictions. His website is www.mylesdungan.com PUBLICATIONS Snuff - with Jim Lusby (Crime Novel) Distant Drums (History) Irish Voices from the Great War (History) They Shall Grow Not Old (History) Theft of the Irish Crown Jewels (History) How the Irish Won the West (History) The Captain and the King (History) Conspiracy: Irish Political Trials (History) Mr. Parnell's Rottweiler (History) On This Day 1 & 2 (History) The White House (Comic Fiction) A Good Walk Spoiled: a book of golf quotes (Sport) Preferred Lies: a book of golf anecdotes (Sport) Forthcoming The Red Branch (Crime Fiction) *Thankfully her response was a gracious and understanding 'Everywhere'.
