Leonid Nevzlin is an Israeli philanthropist and publisher. From the 1990s to the early 2000s, Mr. Nevzlin was a shareholder and a top manager at Bank Menatep, the Rosprom financial industrial group, and the Yukos oil company. Before leaving Russia for Israel in 2003, he served as President of the Russian Jewish Congress and was a Senator in Russia’s Federation Council. In Israel, Mr. Nevzlin established the Nadav Foundation and initiated the rejuvenation of the Museum of the Jewish People, where he serves on the Board of Governors. He is a shareholder of Reichman University, where he also served as a board member. He also served on the Board of Governors of the Jewish Agency for Israel and the Board of Trustees of Keren Hayesod. He supports projects in education and health personally and through several of his non-profit organizations. In line with his interest in promoting research in the field of Russian-Jewish history and culture, in 2003 Mr. Nevzlin inaugurated the Leonid Nevzlin Research Center for Russian and Eastern European Jewry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, which has reenergized research in the field throughout Israeli academia. He has been a member of the university’s Board of Governors since 2009. Mr. Nevzlin is a shareholder of Haaretz, one of Israel’s leading newspapers, and is a founder and publisher of Liberal, a Hebrew-language magazine.
