Joyce King is a native Texan who has traveled the world with her message of justice, hope, and healing. The award-winning veteran broadcaster was a news anchor and reporter for CBS Radio until she stepped down to write her first book, Hate Crime: The Story of a Dragging in Jasper, Texas (Pantheon, 2002). Hate Crime was critically acclaimed and featured on several programs and networks, including Good Morning Texas, NPR, BET, CNN, Book TV, and The Oprah Winfrey Show. King's freelance columns have appeared in The San Diego Union-Tribune, The Christian Science Monitor, The Dallas Morning News, The Houston Chronicle, USA Today, and numerous other publications. King is a speaker, an SMU Honors Department Lecturer, and a William S. Morris Distinguished Lecturer. She was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to serve as his representative at the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT). King was one of the original hosts for The Writers Studio, a public radio show featuring bestselling authors.
