Joel Backaler is a Director/Analyst at Gartner focused on risk technology, artificial intelligence and analytics. He previously served as head of strategy for a publicly-listed research and advisory firm's risk intelligence division. Previously he led a joint-venture with the Wall Street Journal where he was responsible for the go-to-market strategy for a global risk technology product. He is a two-time global business author (Digital Influence & China Goes West, Palgrave Macmillan) and a member of the National Committee on US-China Relations. His thought leadership has been featured in Forbes, The Financial Times, and on the BBC. He has delivered keynotes around the world for audiences including MIT, the US Department of Commerce, and the Institute of International and European Affairs. Joel is a graduate of Connecticut College, a former Fulbright Scholar, and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese. He currently resides in Boston.
