Joaquín Baldwin was born in Paraguay, where he first acquired his love of books by picking up every volume by Ray Bradbury he could get his hands on, and then by submerging himself into a single-bound copy of the Lord of the Rings trilogy—but it wasn’t until much later that he’d acquire a taste for writing. At age 19, he moved to the US to study film and animation, where he received a BFA from CCAD, and an MFA from UCLA. He was the recipient of a full scholarship from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation. His short films have won over 100 awards and honors at festivals and competitions such as Cannes, the Student Academy Awards, Cinequest, and USA Film Festival. Soon after receiving his masters, he began working at the Walt Disney Animation Studios as a CG Layout Artist, and later as a Director of Cinematography, working on films such as Encanto, Zootopia, Frozen, Wish, and Moana. Never content with sticking to his lane, Joaquín has experience as a professional photographer, illustrator, comic artist, web designer, and 3D designer. His varied skillset came in handy when developing his fantasy saga, allowing him to create his own illustrations, maps, 3D models, book covers, website, and even his own language (phonetics, runes, and all). Since the 2020 pandemic hit, he’s been spending every second of free time forging the complex world of Noss.
