J. L. Askew is an award-winning author and a lifelong bibliophile. At the University of Memphis he earned a baccalaureate in psychology and acquired a love of writing which he put to good use as a social worker composing family histories and case reports. Entering the medical industry as a field engineer, he taught at training classes and engaged in technical writing. He retired in 2015 and has been writing ever since. Askew conducted four years of research to finish his first book “War in the Mountains”, a partial history of his great-grandfather’s service in the Civil War. He was set to do another history when his twin brother convinced him to branch into fiction and “Alaska Deadly” was the result. With the next book “Alaska Bloodlust” to be published in 2025, Askew keeps busy with all types of writing, book reviews (seen on Goodreads), a blog, articles for newspapers, and the beginnings of another book. Previously in Memphis Tennessee, Askew relocated to Buena Vista in 2022 to be near his daughter Bethany and six grandchildren. His son Jon and youngest grandson live in Austin, Texas. Single and with no pets, Askew enjoys all aspects of writing, especially connecting with readers and sending out notes of thanks.
