HARLAN ABRAHAMS is a Denver-based writer, lawyer and former law professor. ABRAHAMS wrote and co-authored the bestselling book ON THE LIST: Fixing America's Failing Organ Transplant System, published by Rodale in 2009. This book explores the growing global markets for human transplant organs, while telling the true life stories of two men, one rich and one poor, both lost in the "organ transplant labyrinth." It includes a thorough policy analysis of the organ transplant crisis in the United States, which leaves over 116,000 people waiting "on the list" for life-saving organs. ABRAHAMS is also the principal writer and co-author of RAÚL CASTRO AND THE NEW CUBA: A Close-up View of Change, published in 2011 by McFarland & Company, an independent publisher of nonfiction and academic books. This volume includes first-hand reporting from ABRAHAMS' many trips to Cuba and a deep policy analysis of the sweeping changes that have taken place on the island since Fidel's "little brother" took the reins of power. In 2013 the feature film HAVANA 57--"from the novels of Harlan Abrahams"--was released. Over ten years in development, it is the first major English language production shot entirely on location in Cuba since the U.S. Embargo was imposed five decades ago. To celebrate the release of the film, ABRAHAMS has published HAVANA 58--"from the series that inspired the film"--as an e-book on Amazon.com. ABRAHAMS' latest book, NEVEAH AND THE ANGEL OF DEATH, details the shocking child abuse and murder of 3-year-old Neveah Gallegos in Denver in 2007 and the city's remarkable quest to bring her killer to justice. It includes the author's analysis of the legal and bureaucratic issues that arose during that dramatic quest and reflects his unique access to many of those involved. It is now on sale exclusively at the Tattered Cover bookstores in Denver. ABRAHAMS holds law degrees from both the University of Nebraska and Harvard Law School. He has taught at five law schools, earning tenure at two of them, and has served as a partner at two national law firms. He can be reached at his email address: harlanabrahams@aol.com.
